Job Description

Under the supervision of the President, the Member Relations Manager is primarily responsible for the on-boarding of new members and the retention of existing members through management and implementation of the Chamber's retention and member education efforts. This is to be completed through a variety of avenues and requires a very proactive approach to customer service.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

~Develop excellent knowledge of Chamber member benefits and programs in order to understand and address member’s needs

~Manage all aspects of membership including sales, retention, programs and outreach

~Coordinate new member on-boarding process, including coordinating Member Orientation, committee onboarding and ribbon cuttings/anniversary celebrations

~Manage volunteer Membership Committee

~Coordinate and manage events such as: Business Brews, Lewiston Business Group, Workshops & Programs, River Region Gift Certificate Program, Member to Member Discount Program, Annual Awards Dinner, Develop new programs for member benefits.

~Prepare retention and other reports

~Develop expertise in using membership database

~Represent Chamber at events, as assigned. Participate in on-site assistance at major Chamber events & festivals

~Report regularly and work directly with the President on all activities relating to the role.

~Work with members on developing sponsorship opportunities and added- value programs.


~Assist in additional aspects of the Chamber Program of Work (events, programs, etc.).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

~Confident and enthusiastic

~Experience in customer service, preferably in a membership organization

~Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

~Excellent telephone skills with a thorough knowledge of telephone etiquette

~Ability to create a positive impression of the Chamber while responding to members either by telephone or in person

~Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, members, and the public

~Organized, detail oriented, neat and able to meet deadlines

~Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities

~Ability to learn membership database

~Additional Skills: Volunteer management, event management

  • The Member Relationship Manager must have a valid driver’s license and may work some weekends and a non-traditional work schedule including events, meetings, conferences and training.

    Physical Functions: Tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-25 pounds).
  • Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree. Previous chamber or non-profit experience preferred; proven leadership experience; strong organizational skills; strong interpersonal skills with excellent presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written; strong management skills with the ability to motivate volunteers; strong demonstrated customer relationship and sales skills; strong computer skills, familiar with Microsoft Office, sales management / customer relationship database system experience.
  • Performance Measurement: (Jennifer is currently working on a 360 type of evaluation that will be tailored to the NRRCC Chamber mission/goals and objectives based on this job description).
  • Compensation Structure: This is currently a salaried, exempt position according to the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce Employee Handbook.
