The Tuscarora Nation in the Civil War Program

The Historical Association of Lewiston is pleased to present our Oct. 2019 program: “The Tuscarora Nation in the Civil War”. The event will take place at 7:00 PM Thursday, Oct. 24,2019 at the Lutheran Church of the Messiah Fellowship Hall, 915 Oneida St., Lewiston, NY.

Since Indigenous People Day is celebrated during the month of October our speaker Vince Schiffert’s presentation will look at the experiences of the Tuscarora volunteers in the Civil War. One of his main focus points is on Cornelius Cusick and the “Tuscarora Company” of the 132nd NY Volunteers.


Vince Schiffert is a member of the Tuscarora Nation and the Turtle Clan. He’s a teacher at the Tuscarora Indian School and Niagara Wheatfield HS. He’s a member of the Tuscarora Historical Society. Vince has been a community researcher and is interested in all things pertaining to
Tuscarora.


This community event is free and open to all, refreshments will be served. Come and join us and learn some indigenous history about our close neighbors and friends.
